LÄSS seminar - October 31, 2007

Almost 150 participants from more than 10 countries attended the LASS-day at Grand Hotel in Borås October 31st. All possible aspects and interests for shipbuilding were present in the audience and it was quite clear that lightweight construction at sea is a popular topic in today’s maritime world.

A lot of information and practical shipbuilding knowledge was given during the day. Many questions from the audience concerned regulations and how authorities and classification societies approached new materials and lightweight constructions. The main opinion from “the experts” was that demonstrated examples of accepted lightweight design were needed in order to facilitate the appearance of more advanced materials for shipbuilding as the task of accepting new designs through SOLAS regulation 17 is new also to the authorities. Hopefully, LASS will be able to contribute to this.
