Work package 3 (WP 3) - Conceptual studies

WP3 consists of four sub-units ((3A, 3B, 3C, 3D), each of which is responsible for one of the vessel concepts and for investigation of critical parts of the vessels when designed/built of lightweight materials.  Each sub-unit has a manager, but as much of the work will have common components and structures, the four will work closely together.  Coordination and specific cooperation mechanisms for WP3 will be developed in conjunction with the project management.  The four sub-units will have the following areas of responsibility:

                       A   The composite vessel.  Manager:  SICOMP

                       B   Composite + aluminium.  Manager:  Chalmers Marine Technology

                      C   Steel + Aluminium.  Manager:  SSPA

                      D   Steel + Composite.  Manager:  Kockums

                      E   Composite freight vessel. Manager: Kockums

                      F   Aluminium offshore living quarter. Manager: Emtunga
 

WP3 is central to the overall project, in that the specific problems associated with a move to lightweight materials will be manifested in concrete form in WP3, and will provide the basis for the new technologies and methodologies that are the object of LÄSS.  WP3 will work with WP4, in such ways as supporting WP4's work on design programs and calculation/verification procedures.
